Windows Start Menu Tiles not working, missing or not showing

If Start Menu Tiles are missing, not working, not showing or do not work or respond on Windows 11/10 then this post is sure to help you resolve this problem. Go through the list and see which solutions may apply in your case. Let us look at this in detail.

1] Check the display resolution

According to a lot of cases I have come across – for the UWP Tiles to work, we need our screen resolution to be more than 1024×768. So make sure you have a display resolution on or over 1024×768.  To change the screen resolution right-click on Desktop and click on Screen Resolution.

2] Enable UAC

It’s been reported that if UAC is turned off completely, then the Metro applications won’t work properly. So make sure you don’t disable UAC. To check it Click on Control Panel. Click on “User Accounts and Family Safety”

Click on User Accounts.

Then click on “Turn On or Off User Account Control.”

Make sure you have set the settings to “Default” as shown in the below picture.

3] Create a new User Account

Some users have reported facing this problem when using Microsoft Account as the default login, if you are doing so, change it to Local account, i.e. Create a new User Account in Windows 10 or Windows 11 and make it login under the Local account. Then see if it works.

4] Restart Explorer or Start Menu process

First, restart explorer.exe and see if that helps. To do this, right-click on taskbar > Task Manager. Under Process tab, search for Windows Explorer. Right-click on it and select Restart.

5] Update Display Drivers

Finally, if you have issues with your Display drivers tiles, it can cause Tiles to not work. So I would recommend installing the latest Display drivers. If the drivers are not installing try to install it under compatibility mode. You could also run Windows Updates and install the Optional Driver updates that may be offered. 6] Unpin and Pin the Tiles

Unpin and then again Pin the app tiles to the Start Menu. Sometimes a simple thing like this can get it working.

7] Run Windows Apps Troubleshooter

Run the Windows App Troubleshooter and see if that helps you.

8] Use PowerShell

If all the Start Menu Tiles have gone missing then open PowerShell with elevated privileges and execute the following command. Restart your computer and see if it has helped. These links may also interest you:
